Dear SWITCHengines users,
As more and more users are chosing to store their backup data@SWITCH or are adopting cloud-native approaches in application architectures, SWITCH is delivering the first major architectural change to SWITCHengines since it was initially conceived by providing a dedicated cluster for Object Storage.
Based on the Cloudian Hyperstore platform, we are putting the final touches to a brand new 2PB cluster optimised to meet higher performance backup and live data object storage needs. The cluster will offer full compatibility with the default S3 API making it even easier to integrate with products such as Veeam or Rubrik, or to develop cloud native applications with default libraries.
The existing SWITCHengines storage platform will be further optimised for providing storage options for virtual machines, allowing improvements to performance and stability that were started last year to be fully realised throughout the infrastructure. As the S3 cluster is deployed in a separate data centre and connected over the high speed SWITCH backbone to current SWITCHengines infrastructure, it also offers more assurances for backup and disaster recovery situations.
We will update you in the coming weeks about the launch and migrations. Please let us know at engines-support(a)switch.ch if you have any questions.
All the best,
Ann Harding
PS: There’s still time to tell us what you think of SWITCHengines - https://swit.ch/engines-survey
Dear SWITCHengines users,
We are currently debugging a networking issue in our Lausanne region. Some VMs have lost connectivity.
Best regards,
